MAGNETO FLOOR LAMP BY H. FILLEKES FOR ARTIFORTE, NETHERLANDS 1954
‘Magneto’ is his name and you instantly get a super villain feel about it but no, no, noooo it is one of the most icon and rare finds I had in months. It is an absolute honor to display this lamp in our store. This lamp has been manufactured and hand assembled by a very small company called Artiforte Holland and for a very short period (1954-1958). Therefore, it truly is a FOUND ICON!
The "Magneto" has a solid metal tripod foot and this foot is connected to a long arm which is fixed with a round shaped magnet. This lamp is fully adjustable, because of the ingenious use of the round magnet, super stable and in seconds it can be changed into numerous positions, for reading, uplight, etc. Most of the Magneto's found are in boring black but this unique piece is in its original yellow lacquer and it will instantly brighten up your day! The Magneto is in amazing original condition with only minor wear (patina) from age and usage for the chrome arm and shade.
The award winning design by Gilbert Allen ‘Gil’ Watrous in 1950 MoMa was the inspiration for this design.
