Paul Kingma Coffee Tables

Paul Kingma was a Dutch artist and designer best known for his iconic brutalist coffee tables from the 1960s and 1970s. His tables combine natural stone, slate, ceramic tiles and metal inlays into sculptural mosaic compositions.

Each Paul Kingma table is unique. The tabletops are composed of carefully arranged fragments of stone and metal, creating geometric and abstract patterns that reflect the brutalist design movement of the period.

The Design of Paul Kingma Tables

Kingma's work is immediately recognisable due to its strong architectural composition. The surfaces often feature combinations of slate, marble, brass and copper set into resin or concrete.

The bases of Paul Kingma tables are typically made from steel or aluminium and give the tables a sculptural presence. Because every tabletop was composed by hand, no two tables are exactly the same.

Paul Kingma's work is closely associated with the brutalist design movement that emerged in Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. Brutalist furniture often uses raw materials such as stone, metal and concrete to create bold and expressive forms.
